Message from the Bioinformatics Director
Randy J. Zauhar, PhD
Graduate Program Director for Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics is rapidly becoming the central discipline in life science. The field is increasing in importance in medicine, biotechnology and in the pharmaceutical industry.
Our students come from various backgrounds. Many have undergraduate degrees in modern life sciences or in a computational discipline such as computer science or engineering. Most students seek to become specialists in bioinformatics, chemical or medical informatics; database administrators; information technologists in science-driven environments; or find positions that combine research at the laboratory bench with computational analysis.
We find that cross-disciplinary training provides a better foundation for success in our program, and so our curriculum is structured to provide you with a variety of classes across disciplines.
I hope you will learn more about USP's innovative bioinformatics program, and how this exciting new field can offer you a rich and rewarding career.
