Meet Debbie Anderson, MS, graduate of USP's Biomedical Writing program

The degree from USP gave me the ability to be a strong writer for a number of different audiences.Name: Debbie Anderson
Degree Program: MS in Biomedical Writing
Year Graduated: 2003

Why I chose USP

I chose USP for the flexibility of the courses, and because it had a medical writing program.

How this degree program prepared me for my career

The degree from USP gave me the ability to be a strong writer for a number of different audiences from layperson to PhD level.

My career path since graduation

I have had the opportunity to work on several reports, validations, standard operating procedures, training materials, and verifications. I will soon be transitioning into a new position, writing medical brochures, given by physicians to their patients, at the point of care.

A memorable USP experience

Dr. Connor showed me aspects of medical writing that I never considered or thought about. For example, white space or font type on a page, words chosen by people in their writing and how it provides their signature, the importance of a clear well written document, differences involved in writing for varying audiences, etc. Dr. Connor was a great mentor and she inspired me to become a well educated and coherent writer.

My advice for prospective students

Never give up no matter how bleak things may seem. All you need is one good chance and you WILL get it.

Other things I want people to know about USP

USP has friendly and helpful staff. They are considerate of working students trying to advance their careers. USP is realistic in its expectations and needs for students.
